Official Example of Play

Hey Everyone!

Today's update is something we promised a couple of updates ago. It is *drumroll* the Example of Play! 

We've been tweaking it and adding things based on feedback from regular ttrpg players and non-players over the last few weeks and we finally feel like it's ready. Of course, we welcome your feedback and questions as well. 

The Example of Play will be a part of the rulebook. And if you don't want to read it, that's okay (it's quite long 😅). There are plenty of short examples for all of the rules scattered throughout the book. 

This is simply a way for us to show how the Nuadan System works in a session, while also enjoying a fun story.

Hey guys! Very excited to announce that Jarold Sng, an artist we have worked with on many, many pieces over the years, has dropped a video featuring one of the characters he made for The Nuadan Chronicles. 

This character comes from the very first playtest scenario we ran at GenCon 2016 in the First Exposure Hall. We've never shown this concept art before because the Shadowborn are an important part of the game lore, for reasons that will be revealed over time.

Now, Jarold won't be diving into the character's backstory but he will be showing off how he took our ideas and brought them to life. It goes from just some random lines to a fully, fleshed out concept piece and it's super amazing!

Maps and Things

We have a world map of Nuada and we have a map of Uldris (the starting nation), so our next map project has been to get all eight of the Uldrisian provinces drawn up.

First up is Nafa, the northernmost province!

Only the hardiest of people choose to live in the wildlands of Nafa. Hunters, exiles, nomadic Travelers, and pugnacious wanderers fight for survival each day in this lush, untamed landscape. The short, warm summers are quickly swept away by frigid northern winds,  leaving only fae of ice and mist and ironwood to haunt the snowy rainforests.

Other Happenings:

  • Our friends at TenTen Studio are working on a new concept piece for the game.
  • Jarold Sng is going to post up a video about how he created a previous piece he'd done for us. We've never shared this concept art with anyone before (it's one of the mysterious factions present in our game) so let us know your reactions to it! We'll post an update when it goes up on his YouTube channel.
  • We are also going to release an Example of Play soon!

An Update or Three

As you all know, the last few months have been a little crazy. We are still working hard on getting the game finalized. Unfortunately, we are going to have to push the original release date from August to the fall. We will be extending the window to pre-order Backerkit add-ons (likely to the end of May).

Some progress updates:

  • Founder-tier characters and their guild sigils are all complete (they look ah-mazing!)
  • We're halfway done with the provincial maps for Uldris. Many thanks to Summer (@justasummerjob) for her hard work so far.
  • We can't remember if we addressed this previously, but to reiterate we will be releasing the digital versions of The Nuadan Chronicles when the books go to print!

Convention News

We had originally planned to be at MomoCon and Gen Con. With the pandemic going on and our finances being what they are at the moment, we have decided not to attend either convention. It's a bit of a bummer since we always look forward to meeting people and forging connections. 😓 When the situation improves, we might plan meetups for backers that live near Atlanta to pick up their items. More on that later. 

Stay Safe

Both of us are doing fine and being vigilant to protect ourselves from COVID-19. We want everyone to stay safe out there and wash your hands. Don't forget to wash your dice too. 😆 Practice social distancing, and do not venture out unless necessary. With luck, we look forward to everyone exploring the world of Nuada later this year.
